This project has history and deep roots. For five generations, our family has cared for this land that initially was a dairy and production farm. A few years ago we decided to give it a new direction, transforming it into a tourist space that preserves the family legacy and, at the same time, opens its doors to the world.
Three years ago we started with the first stage of this dream: Our largest house, Las Luciérnagas. A year later we completed the second phase, Casa Hortensias, thus bringing to life a project that combines tradition, hospitality and nature.
Our parents and grandparents, pillars of this story, have been great travelers, and from each journey they bring ideas that inspire new experiences here on the farm. This is how unique attractions such as the giant bench or the photo frame were born, symbols of creativity and joy that our visitors enjoy today.
Fireflies, also known as cocuyos in Costa Rica, are small insects that possess a fascinating gift: emitting natural light thanks to a chemical process called bioluminescence. Their glow is not only magical, it is also a form of communication: they use it to attract mates, defend themselves or mark their territory.
On our farm, thanks to its cool climate, the humidity of the cloud forests and the purity of the environment, they find an ideal habitat to magically illuminate the place. This phenomenon occurs every night, especially during season, which is what inspired us to name our home.
Every night, fireflies illuminate our farm, creating a unique natural spectacle that our guests will remember forever.
